Motivation Is What Gets You Started, Commitment Is What Keeps You Going
Commitment doesn’t mean you will never fail! We all will at some point, or maybe, like me, you have in the past!
Commitment means I’m going to simply show up and try again, no matter what!!
So often in our health and wellness journey, we are afraid to commit. Sometimes we are afraid because we have tried something new and it didn’t work, despite our hard work. Sometimes we are afraid to commit because we have a pattern of failure and we don’t want to fail yet again, so it’s better not to try at all!
But commitment is about so much more! It’s about an attitude; it’s about making a decision to show up, to follow through, no matter what tries to derail you!
Life is full of curve balls and life is full of failure! I am an expert at failing at the fitness game! I completely threw in the towel when my husband got sick with cancer, and I totally gave up my fitness routine. I mean one day I’m training for the Boston Marathon and the next thing I know, it was 6 months later and I hadn’t run or done anything for my health. I was broken and my world had fallen apart. Everything was hard! I had NO motivation and ZERO energy for being concerned about my health and wellness! Definitely not the best way to handle that!
There will aways be things like this that try to not knock us off our game-maybe it’s a sick child that keeps you up all night, or a work deadline, or a diagnosis that leaves you broken, or a to-do list that takes your whole day, or just simply life is just too busy! I get it. But commitment takes all of that into consideration and says, “I’ll still show up anyways and do my best!”
And it’s also about failing forward! So we screw up, so we throw in the towel for a few days, weeks months, or even years!
Oh well! Let’s get back up. Don’t beat yourself up over it! It’s a new day today and it’s never too late to recommit and start again! That’s called failing forward! And when you commit to never quitting, amazing things happen!!
This is what my accountability groups are all about. It’s for those who are scared or have failed or who have tried and are needing something different. It’s about having people cheer you on and hold you accountable to showing up even when you don’t feel like it or want to. Because we all need that. We need someone to walk with us and remind us of the commitment we made and that we can do it day in and day out, regardless of if we want to!
